Goose Lake: A Birdwatcher’s Delight

Goose Lake State Recreation Area, located along the Oregon-California border, is the perfect place to relax, sit back and enjoy the view.

The gorgeous lake and wide open grassy fields attract more than just campers. Every year, several types of birds migrate to the serene 71-acre park, which makes this a perfect spot for birdwatchers. And, thanks in part to Lottery dollars, the park is kept in pristine condition for the feathery guests.

Goose Lake is near the Warner Mountains and Hart Mountain Wildlife Refuge. And with over 45 campsites available on a first come, first served basis, it’s the ideal spot for a spontaneous getaway. Stop on by, then sit back and enjoy the view!

If you’re in to camping, Goose Lake State Recreation Area offers up places for you to pitch your tent or hook up your RV. Consider bringing your kayak or canoe for some leisurely paddling around the lake. While you’re there, you’ll probably notice the large herd of mule deer that inhabit the park. They’re often seen trolling the camping areas in search of a snack.
