Roland Iparraguirre has been named Deputy Director of the Oregon Lottery.

“We are pleased to welcome Roland to our team,” said Lottery Director Jack Roberts. “He brings a wealth of experience that will be invaluable to the Lottery as we continue to build on our success in generating revenue for public programs.”

Prior to joining the Lottery, Iparraguirre had been with the City of Portland as Deputy City Attorney since 2006. In that role, Iparraguirre served as legal counsel during city council meetings and advised the city’s elected officials on numerous issues that were highly political and controversial.

From 1997-2006, Iparraguirre served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Oregon Department of Justice. During that time, he served as general counsel to Oregon’s largest agencies, such as Oregon Department of Transportation, Oregon State Police, Department of Motor Vehicles and Oregon Youth Authority, and even worked on legal matters for the Oregon Lottery.

Born in Peru, Iparraguirre moved to the United States when he was eight and was raised in the Coos Bay/North Bend area. He graduated from the University of Oregon with dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish Literature and Political Science. He received his law degree from Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College in 1997.

Iparraguirre succeeds Jon Clontz as Oregon Lottery Deputy Director. Clontz left the Oregon Lottery after being named Chief Executive Officer of the new Wyoming Lottery on Oct. 7

Since the Oregon Lottery began selling tickets on April 25, 1985, it has earned over $8 billion for economic development, public education, state parks and watershed enhancements. In that same period, it has paid its players more than $23 billion in prizes.
